Charity Denim Day Supports Face to Face Germantown Legal Center
June 9, 2016
Zarwin Baum's June Denim Day will support Face to Face Germantown Legal Center and its efforts to raise the funds necessary to continue its Free Birth Certificate Clinic.
At Face to Face struggling families, individuals and the homeless are welcomed and treated with dignity and respect. Face to Face’s goal is to meet basic human needs and reduce suffering, thereby assisting its guests to a better future. Face to Face offers a Dining Room, a nurse managed Health Center, a Legal Center, a Social Services Center and Children’s Summer Camps and After School programs. Face to Face also has a Washeteria where people can take a hot shower and receive a new set of clothes. Face to Face serves 2,500 annually and has been a stable presence in Germantown for over 20 years.
The Face to Face Legal Center protects the human, civil and legal rights of low income and homeless individuals. The Legal Center serves more than 600 people each year and bridges the “justice gap” by offering a full range of free legal services to individuals who live below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level.
The Face to Face Legal Center also helps countless people secure legal identification, including Birth Certificates. The center is staffed by volunteer attorneys and law students, including members of the Villanova Law Pro Bono Society. Villanova Law students volunteer at the Face to Face Legal Clinic on the first Saturday of every month and assist Face to Face clients in obtaining copies of their birth certificates, which are often needed to obtain employment. On July 1, 2014, the cost of obtaining a copy of a Pennsylvania Birth Certificate doubled, from $10 to $20. This has significantly increased the Legal Center’s expenses.
