Peter A. Greiner

Peter Greiner is a Shareholder in Zarwin Baum’s Personal Injury Department and leads our Medical Malpractice litigation division. For over 25 years, Pete has been representing the interests of victims, and for over a decade Pete has dedicated his practice to representing the interests of those who have been victims of medical negligence all over Pennsylvania and New Jersey, obtaining millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements in the most difficult cases and in the toughest jurisdictions. Regardless of the subject matter, whether it be a personal injury or business matter, Pete is a trial lawyer who is at home in the courtroom. Pete began his career developing his craft as a litigator in the largest state prosecutor’s office in the country and has applied those skills to many areas of the law to protect the interests of his clients.

As a partner in Zarwin Baum’s personal injury practice and the Chair of our Medical Malpractice division, Pete Greiner focuses his practice on matters involving professional malpractice, catastrophic injury and wrongful death, as well as civil rights violations, dram shop, product liability, and other serious injury matters. Pete also represents clients in complex commercial litigation, including past matters involving healthcare fraud, shareholder disputes, as well as non-compete agreements and restrictive covenants.
Over the course of his career, Pete has obtained millions of dollars in jury verdicts and settlements on behalf of individuals who were injured. In recent years, Pete won a $4 million jury verdict in a medical malpractice case in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on behalf of the mother of a 1-month old child who died from whooping cough. That verdict is believed to be the largest medical malpractice death verdict in Lancaster County’s history.
Most recently, Pete obtained a Plaintiff’s verdict of over $800,000 in a medical malpractice case in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania for the family of a man who died after his physician failed to help his patient’s addiction to prescription pain medicine. That verdict is believed to be one of the only Plaintiff’s medical malpractice verdicts won in Montgomery County since the pandemic.
Pete also served as co-lead counsel for one of the main defendants in the Salvation Army Building Collapse case, which culminated in an historic, five-month long trial in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.
Pete has also represented numerous individuals who were victims of shareholder oppression and other business disputes. Pete applies the same professionalism, detail, and zeal to his business clients as those that he represents who are seriously injured.
Additionally, Pete, who served as an Assistant District Attorney for the City of Philadelphia for five years, has used that experience to successfully defend numerous clients facing serious state and criminal charges. Pete also has fought for those that have been wrongfully arrested, bringing suit on their behalf and recovering verdicts and settlements for those innocent parties totaling over a million dollars.
Pete graduated from Colgate University with a B.A. in Political Science in 1995 and earned his law degree at the Villanova University School of Law in 1998.

Representative Matters

Defamation

Pete Greiner secured significant confidential settlements on behalf of clients who were defamed by media outlets. Pete was one of the lead members of a team of attorneys that prosecuted several defamation matters against large newspapers and their reporters for defamatory articles about public figures. Those actions resulted in significant, confidential settlements for those plaintiffs.

False Arrest

Pete Greiner secured a substantial and confidential settlement for a man falsely jailed for shooting another man by uncovering evidence that the police ignored in their rush to judgment against an innocent man. The plaintiff was arrested based on a tainted identification, suggested by the police when they zeroed in on the brother of the plaintiff as someone with motive to try and kill the victim. When they couldn't get the brother, the police set their sights on the plaintiff, a rising mortgage broker with no criminal record. The plaintiff was jailed for 4 months while he awaited trial in the criminal case and then after his bail was lowered and he was able to post bail, he waited another year before he was finally exonerated in the criminal courts. Pete doggedly pursued the civil rights case for the plaintiff, gathering evidence and deposing the police detectives who led the arrest of the plaintiff. The key to the case came in the form of video evidence which the police downplayed in favor of their tainted identification, which the victim admitted was a result of a suggestion by the police. Eventually, the overwhelming evidence Pete obtained in discovery led to a generous settlement for the plaintiff to move forward with his life to try to get back to the success he had enjoyed before his unjust arrest and incarceration.
