Career Biography

A. Martin Herring focuses his practice in Estate Planning, Estate Administration and Labor Relations Dispute Resolution.

For the past forty four years, Martin, while engaged in the private practice of law, was the retained attorney for the Pennsylvania State Education Association in eastern Pennsylvania. In that capacity he was the advocate and champion for the maintenance and improvement of the public education system in Pennsylvania. During that period of time he, advocated and litigated hundreds of cases at labor arbitrations, as well as matters before the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board. In addition he litigated and argued complex labor and education cases, before both state and federal trial courts. He argued appellate issues in the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the Commonwealth and Superior Courts of Pennsylvania.

Martin will continue to engage in dispute resolution in the field of labor relations. He enjoys an outstanding reputation as a seasoned, experienced mediator and arbitrator. He is a member of the labor panel of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Mediation and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. A well respected labor arbitrator recently stated this about Martin:

“He has outstanding knowledge in relation to collective bargaining, relevant statues, and a keen insight into the relationships between parties”

Another stated: “I know of very few individuals who possess the judicial temperament that he does”

Representative Matters

Negotiated and and settled multimillion dollar labor disputes as well as commercial and estate litigation cases.

In the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, successfully defended the right of public employees to negotiate and strike in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Successfully settled a case in which he recovered three million dollars for the employees of a local employer.

Established new law in matters regarding sabbatical leaves, employment discrimination, seniority rights, employee benefits and the delivery of educational services to the children of the Commonwealth.
