Zarwin Baum Announces CIPP/US Certification of Shareholders Ted Schaer & Lisa Slotkin, and Launch of New Cyber Liability Practice

June 11, 2015

Zarwin Baum has announced that Shareholder and Co-Chair of the Property and Casualty Defense Department, Theodore M. Schaer, and Shareholder and Chairwoman of the Professional Liability Defense Department, Lisa Z. Slotkin, have earned the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). What’s more, the firm has announced the formation of its Cyber Liability Practice.

The IAPP is the first organization to publicly establish standards in professional education and testing for privacy and data protection. The CIPP/US demonstrates a strong foundation in U.S. private-sector privacy laws and regulations as well as an understanding of the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to or from the U.S., the E.U. and other jurisdictions. Schaer and Slotkin join the ranks of more than 5,000 professionals worldwide who currently hold one or more IAPP certifications.

The announcement of Schaer and Slotkin’s certification coincides with the launch of Zarwin Baum’s Cyber Liability Practice, which is focused on the growing risks and rapidly evolving liability exposures associated with the storage of personal data. Through preemptive consulting and privacy and security assessments, our attorneys collaborate with clients to develop internal practices that minimize the potential for data breaches and legal liabilities. This includes the comprehensive evaluation of a client’s existing insurance policy and drafting new policies to address each client’s unique risks. When necessary, our attorneys settle cyber claims and represent clients in coverage litigation.

In the event of a data breach, Zarwin Baum’s breach response team is positioned to immediately address emergencies with a 24/7 incident response service. Using cyber forensic investigators to conduct analysis of each breach to pinpoint its cause and scope, the team creates a strategy to mitigate further intrusion. Additionally, the team assesses which steps need to be taken to comply with Security Breach Notification Laws and is prepared to assist in the coordination of breach notification.
