Zarwin Baum Cancels 18th Annual March Madness Event

March 11, 2020

With Zarwin Baum’s 18th Annual March Madness event quickly approaching, the firm was closely monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak and its impact on the community. Each year an estimated 2,500 business executives attend the invitation-only networking event. Considering the unprecedented and still evolving situation with the coronavirus, along with recommendations from the CDC, Zarwin Baum made the difficult decision to cancel their event scheduled for March 19th at the Crystal Tea Room.  The following day, the NCAA made the decision not only to cancel the 2020 basketball tournaments, but all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships.

The Zarwin Baum March Madness event has become one of the largest, most eagerly anticipated, events in the city, where guests gather to watch the NCAA tournament coverage, network with some of the city’s top leaders, and raise money for Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization.

Local businesses, restaurants, and friends of the firm donate to the nine-hour event by providing sponsorship, food tastings, and coveted items to include in the silent auction. Since adding the charitable component in 2010, the event and its generous attendees have helped Zarwin Baum raise more than $300,000 for Philabundance.

After conditions with the coronavirus improve, Zarwin Baum is hopeful that they will be able to hold a different event to support the efforts of Philabundance and & help put an end to the hunger crisis in our community.
